Introduction
Workers are a vital part of our society; I do not believe any infrastructure could be built without them.
In a country like India, with a population exceeding 1.35 billion, there are more than 70 million construction workers. (Source)
Yet, 90% of them are unaware of the numerous benefits the government provides to workers who hold a Labour Card.
That is why, today, I will explain the easiest application process, the benefits, how to check application status, and many other important details regarding the Labour Card.
“A Labour Card brings security to every worker.”
What is Labour Card and how it works

As the name suggests, a Labour Card serves as the official identity for a laborer or construction worker.
Any individual laborer can obtain this registration identity.
The Labour Card is issued by the state’s Labour Welfare Board or the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Welfare Board.
This registered identity makes a construction worker eligible for government welfare schemes.
In addition to welfare schemes, the Labour Card also provides access to benefits from welfare programs and campaigns run by the government.s bhi Labour Card se he milte hai.

You might think that the Labour Card and the e-Shram Card are the same, but that is not the case.
While one could say they are similar to some extent, there are slight differences between them.
Looking at this table will clarify things for you:
| e-Shram Card | Labour Card |
|---|---|
| Issued by the Central Government | Issued by the State Labour Welfare Board |
| For all unorganised workers | Mainly for construction workers |
| Valid across India | Usually valid within one state |
| Provides a Universal Account Number (UAN) | Provides access to state welfare schemes |
| National worker database registration | State-specific worker registration |

What happens if my labour Card expires?

Letting your Labour Card expire is not a good idea.
That is why it is important to renew it immediately by following the method I have suggested.
If your Labour Card expires, you could miss out on many things.
You might lose access to all the benefits provided under welfare schemes.
Benefits such as scholarships, pensions, housing assistance, and financial support could be halted.
You will start receiving these benefits again once your Labour Card is renewed, but delaying the renewal is certainly not advisable.
What are the advantages of a labour card?
Having a Labour Card allows you to avail yourself of numerous benefits.
You might think it is merely an identity card for construction workers, but it currently offers a wide range of benefits across various states:
- Financial Support: Access to pensions, emergency assistance, and other welfare benefits.
- Medical & Accident Coverage: Help with medical expenses and compensation for workplace injuries.
- Education & Family Benefits: Scholarships for children and support under various family welfare schemes.
- Housing & Skill Development: Benefits for housing assistance and vocational training programs.
- Worker Identity Proof: Official registration that helps workers access government welfare schemes.
Conclusion
If you work in the construction sector in any Indian state, applying for a Labour Card can help secure your future.
Applying for a Labour Card is very easy; you can do so immediately by following the seven simple steps I mentioned above.
If you encounter any issues even after that, please let me know in the comments.
